Dr. Chris Smith earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas. He then completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

Dr. Smith is a third generation Orthopaedic Surgeon. His grandfather, Dr. Edward T. Smith, was one of the first orthopedic surgeons in the Houston area. His father, Dr. Taylor K. Smith, is the former chairman of the division of Orthopedic Surgery at The University of Texas Health and Science Center in Houston, Texas. In addition to his practice of general orthopedics and sports medicine, Dr. Smith is also involved with Operation Rainbow. Operation Rainbow is a non profit organization which provides plastic and orthopedic surgery to children and young adults in developing countries in Central and South America. Dr. Smith and his wife, Ivonne E. Smith, M.D., live in Houston with their three children.
